My seven year old grandson is going to learn how easy it is to waste his allowance. He wanted this to keep his four year old brother out of his stuff. A piggy bank would be just as secure. Made of cheap snap together plastic. If a child really wants a secure box get him one made of metal from an office supply store. It may not say anything but it will last.

Ahoy Mate! Some of the reviews stated the reason they didn't like the watch is because it arrived dead on arrival (i.e., the watch battery was dead). That issue has been addressed with the ones that ship from 3D Joe Toys and Games. 3D Joe includes a brand new watch battery that is easy to install. All you need is a small screw driver and the watch works like a charm. If your kids like pirates, they are sure to have fun with this watch!

My grandson loves his Pirate Pocket Watch which was bought as a replacement for a lost McDonald's Happy Meal gift. I searched the toy box to no avail to find the compass my grandson thought he left behind. I finally went to Amazon to see if I could find a substitute. This watch/compass worked fine and saved the day.

Bought this item for my 4 year old after owning the Wild Planet Treasure Hunt game (which is fantastic) and thought the quality would be the same. Boy were we sadly mistaken.



My son was very exceited about this toy especially because he has been learning how to tell time but doesn't like wearing a watch on his wrist so this sounded like the perfect solution as well as it being a compass and of course anything Pirate related. So, the reality of this toy is the watch does not work right out of the package and if you want it to work you need to go to a jeweler to have a watch battery put in for an additional $10.00, the compass is not a real compass and we couldn't figure out what the secret decoder was. All in all it was a joke, the fact that you are expected to shell out an additional $10.00 for this item to just get it to work was insulting to say the least. A piece of junk. It was promptly returned. I would not recommend anyone buying this.

My son loves this toy. He's usually loses intrest fast in toys but he was so excited to get this toy, but when it arrived the watch part did not work. We thought the battery had died, so we took it to the jewelers to get it replaced with a new one and it still did not work, so I guess the watch it self is just broken. Also, I ordered this for my son because not only could he tell time on it (which he can't any more) but we were excited about showing him how a compass works. I guess I did not read close enough (it is a toy) but the compass is not real and I thought that was kind of chezzy. It would not cost the manufacture much to put A REAL ONE IN. My son was upset that the watch part did not work and hes' the one that bugged us to try to get it fixed. We did not have the heart to tell him the compass was not real, so we just pretend it works :-(. The only part on this toy that works is the secret decoder(oooooohhhh!!).

I got this toy so I could tie the passing of time visually to the falling sand for my three-year old. I spent quite some time researching digital sand clocks, and found that this was basically the only one that shows the grains large enough and separate enough to give a good visual.



This toy was mainly what I expected from the description. The plastic is relatively sturdy, the interface is OK, everything is basically OK, except a couple of things. One, you can only set the timer in whole minute increments (no 30s timing), and two - the passing of sand is not coupled to the length of time on the timer! What?



So - what's the point then? The grains fall at the rate of 1 full hourglass per minute, no matter how many minutes you set for the timer. Basically you get a 1min timer that flips automatically until the number of minutes you have specified. I don't know what purpose this sand timer serves, except decorative, if that's your thing. It's not educational.

I ordered this timer for a student with Autism to visually represent time. I needed something durable as it would probably be thrown. This item arrived broken in mutiple places. I couldn't see it until the packaging was off so I threw it away. Its obviously not what I am looking for!
