The game Munchkin in general is just awesome. The only reason why I don't give Munchkin Fu a five is cause the artwork is the least appealing to me from the rest of the Munchkin series.

"Your Munchkin Fu is no match for mine!" 2008-06-21
By Don Walton Jr. (Albuquerque, NM United States)
Munchkin Fu is a great variation on the near-classic Munchkin gameplay.

You battle your munchkin warriors (yakuza, samurai, monk or ninja) against hordes of demons, Gaki and other monsters and collect heaps of treasure and weapons along the way.

The game is fast-paced, VERY varied (and funny too), and easy to set up and play. It's just two card decks and one dice. Simple!

I'm taking off one star just because it's got a fairly steep learning curve. There are a lot of rules, and every card in the deck has it's own set of rules to follow. It can be very overwhelming for a new player... but it's interesting enough to stick with it, and after your first game, it's easy to plan strategies and keep up with the rules and gameplay.

Another item to note is that most Munchkin decks can be combined. ie. you can use your Munchkin Fu decks with your regular Munchkin decks, or other Munchkin games. Rules for combining decks are included.

I first got introduced to the original Munchkin game only about a month ago through my boyfriend, and I fell in love. Soon after I had to have my own set and decided on Munchkin Fu. Good choice! It requires a little bit of strategic thinking, but thats what I love about the game. And this particular set is great bc we all love those silly kung fu movies, and this game is like being in your very own kung fu movie...not really, but it is still a lot of fun.

I was introduced to munchkin about 4 years ago. I bought it soon after and have played in hundreds of times! It is the greatest party game (for 4 people unless you have the expansions, then about 4-12). I personally own Muchkin (original) and Munchkin: Unatural Axe (1st expansion pack) I am now looking to purchase Star Munchkin and Munchkin Fu. I have played all 3 of these versions and not one is any less fun than the next! I guess it's all about preference. If you have ever played Munchkin you'll know what I am talking about!!!! ENJOY any of these great game!!!

 "Fun, but slow" 2008-07-20
By Tom Helms (Florida, USA)
I really enjoy Star Munchkin & Munchkin Bites and I can't wait to try some others, but we've come to the conclusion that Munchkin Bites is broken. It seems like every time we play it people start whining about the game taking too long. I think the problem is not enough monsters (unless you count the vampires, werewolves and changelings player characters). When combined with Star Munchkin it doesn't appear to drag that game down though. :)

"I don't care for the Genre or the game tweak" 2006-01-06
By Peter Ingemi (Worcester County, Massachusetts United States)
Next to STAR MUNCHKIN this is my least favorite of the very excellent Munchkin series of games.

Two things work against it for me.

1...The Genre is just not my thing, if it is your thing then you will enjoy this game a lot more than I do.

2...The powers system, powers that can be used are based on levels, it is in my opinion not as playable and took my kid a bit longer to catch on. The same system was used in SuperMunchkin and I didn't care for it as much there either.

Nevertheless the game system plays pretty much like all the others so it is pretty solid. Munchkin is a fine game series it's just a question of finding the right flavor for you.

This one just doesn't happen to be mine.

"They got the ZING back!!" 2005-09-18
By Charles S. Holzheimer (Centennial, CO)
I began playing the Munchkin line when there was only the one game. Who would have known it would grow into this many offshoots and variations? Who? SJ Games of course and boy are they cashing in! Luckily this game series has held up in quality and they really seemed to dig into some quality satire with the vampire theme of this game. I for one have been involved in many sarcastic verbal attacks of all the goths and their over-dramatic gaming style. This game lets you bring that sarcasm right to the game table. If you are a completist and need the whole set, go for it. If vampires are not your bag, you might consider a pass on this one, there are plenty of other Munchkin products out there to keep you entertained (Munchkin Fu, Star Munchkin, Super Munchkin, and of course the original D&D based ones).

"Good Game but not great" 2005-09-09
By Jonathan M. Lourie (Marblehead, MA USA)
The rules of this card game of fairly straightforward. Each player is a first level human, Along the way you acquire new personas with new powers (werewolf, vampire or changeling), open doors to fictitious rooms (i.e., pick a card), fight the monster in the room (i.e., on the back of the card), collect the treasure in the room and move on. You can play cards against your opponents, some of them funny, e.g., change his or her sex leading to a turn of distraction (but it might be helpful later against a monster that has a power only against the prior sex) or more sinister, e.g., death. The combat is simple and you can call for allies. There is active card trading and it is a freewheeling game of combat, greed and betrayal.

The things that stop this game from being great are the illustrations which are somewhat funny but generally pedestrian and boring and did not work to create the illusion of going into rooms. The game never transported you beyond a card game. The game is also a slow start and can be a bit boring until you have the strength needed to defeat some monsters, most of which have levels higher than yours. Because you can ask for allies in these fights, the more players the better this game plays. Finally, the number of cards and the way the game plays makes it difficult to develop an overall strategy - I am not saying impossible - but just difficult. This might change the more we play. But this game will not have the repeat playability of other similar genre card games and I suspect that while it is a good concept and an interesting game, the defects will prevent this game from becoming a family favorite.

"Decent game with good laughs" 2005-08-18
By Jeffery A. Hellen (Hereford, AZ USA)
Munchkin Bites is yet another entry in the Munchkin series from Steve Jackson Games. For an interesting read, google "Steve Jackson" and "Secret Service" at the same time.) The original Munchkin series was a satiric take on hack-and-slash roleplaying; Munchkin Bites takes on the vampire and goth genres. Gameplay itself is fairly simple. Players start with a hand of four cards from which they may select character classes and/or equipment. Each class has its own strengths and weaknesses, but the weaknesses tend to disappear during gameplay as players simply become more and more powerful. Gameplay consists of drawing a card, fighting the revealed monster or dealing with the effects of a non-monster card, and trying to scoop up treasure. The goal? Gain 10 (or 20, if you prefer) levels.

Munchkin Bites is a stand alone game, but it can be combined with any of the Munchkin series, including the expansions. It's not a particularly complex game; the fun comes from arguing about helping or hurting other players in their quest for levels.

In addition, the cards themselves are satirical looks at the vampire and goth roleplaying genres. Curses such as "The Universe Hates You, Lose 1 Level" pop up, as do humorous takes on monsters and magic.

Munchkin Bites is a decent game, and I can recommend it as a simple but fun family game. If you can find it in a local game shop give them your business, but ordering off Amazon will save you a few bucks.

Munchkin is about beating up monsters, taking their stuff, and sequels. Munchkin Bites! is no different. Thus were born . . . the Pants Macabre.
The World of Dorkness has been busy. Can you face the sonic stylings of Ten Inch Tacks, the annoyance of the Gnat Bats, and the chilling waddle of the Were-Penguin? Will you wield the might of Power Piercing with the Huge Dice Pool, or will you be bludgeoned by Bad Fiction? And do you dare play the new Race . . . the Mummy?
In addition to the always awesome art from John Kovalic, we have two guest artists: Pete Abrams of Sluggy Freelance and Maritza Campos of College Roommates from Hell. The jokes can be blamed on Steve Jackson.
It's got 110 shiny new . . . no, not shiny, dark! It's got 110 dark and evil new cards, plus two blanks to create your own. And of course, like all other Munchkin releases, this supplement is completely compatible with the original Munchkin and all its supplements and spinoffs. Of course, since Pants Macabre has powers, it will work especially well with Super Munchkin.

By Matt Dahlquist
I have played many of the Munchkin series games and own several. The "Munchkin Bites!" set are well balanced and fun play overall, but the Powers mechanic confuses new players. The expansion "Pants Macabre" continues the excellent jokes and silliness of the set with more wandering monsters, monster augmenting or deflating, "dead" items -Parrot (see the Monty Python Parrot sketch), friend, batteries-, some new bats and adds the "Mummy" race. No knockout additions but a good strong suppliment. If you have Bites!, you definately want the Pants!

The Munchkins take to the stars - again!
Star Munchkin 2 brings the epic saga of The Clown Wars to life, except with better acting . . . Star Munchkin took the rules-bending, power-gaming, dungeon-crawling insanity of the original Munchkin and put the whole thing in space, where the monsters are more alien, the weapons more zappy, and the treasure - well, there's still piles of treasure.
Strap on the Sprayser or the new X-Rayser and go ray-gunning for new monsters like the Nerds of Prey! Play a new race (the Bugs) or class (Space Ranger!), and do it all with Ralph, the Wonder Dog by your side. Star Munchkin 2 - The Clown Wars also has a new card type: Rooms. Just open the door, and . . . "oh, noooooooooo . . .!"
Star Munchkin 2 - The Clown Wars is a supplement to Star Munchkin; you will need the original game to play. Or you could add it to a game of Munchkin, Munchkin Fu, or Munchkin Bites! instead, or mix them all together for a Munchkin-fest of truly mind-bending proportions!

There are lots of ways to keep track of your level in Munchkin - coins, pretty glass stones, even candy (which has its drawbacks if your rivals eat your levels when you look away). You could just "remember" your level, but would you trust some other player who tried that? We didn't think so. In the end, most gamers use a good old 10-sided die. And now we've got the ultimate, creme de la creme of 10-sided dice - six of them, all different colors! - in the Munchkin Dice set!
These oversized (35.6mm), swirly-shiny 10-siders all have the victorious Super Munchkin's picture in place of the "0". When you reach Level 10 and claim victory, everyone will see that YOU are the ultimate Munchkin
And new dice just cry out for a new random-results table. So here it is. You'll like it (heh, heh) . . .
And finally, there are 14 brand-new, never-before-seen Munchkin cards to make your character even more overpowered. Try adding "Master" to your Class, earning you extra Treasure! Or become a "High" or "Dark" member of your Race! Or if you lose a battle, you can play "Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies"(featuring guest art from Something Positive's Randy Milholland!) - Everyone else shares your pain and loses a level! And if you die, everyone dies!!" There's more - of course - but you're going to have to roll the Munchkin Dice to get them!

"Great Cards Useless Dice Rules" 2008-06-05
By lucho_leche
Lets start with the dice themselves. Big chunky d10s that you would think would be great for reading from a distance as life counters BUT they have one issue, the 6 and 9 aren't marked with lines so you can tell them apart!

The dice rules add very little to Munchkin, running a 7 hour game into Epic levels and they were rolled twice when the person rolling had a Loaded Die card so they could change the result. The basic idea is that you can pay a level at the start of your turn to get a result from a table, the results are for rarely worth the level loss.

The cards that come with it though are GREAT! Race and class modifiers like High, Dark and Master really make game play interesting. So the set is worth it for those and other cards. Sadly the dice rules just didn't seem thought through.

"Great dice, OK expansion cards" 2007-08-26
By B. Moeller (Columbus, OH)
Great accessory for Munchkin! The rules that go with the dice are great! While there are a few good expansion cards that come with this (Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies; Narrow-Minded), there are too many of the three race/class enhancers: some extra monsters would have been nice. Still, you get your money's worth with this.

 "Munchkin D10 set" 2007-06-01
By Arbus Nighthawk (Puerto Rico)
Well, first of all this is not a stand alone, it's a small expansion to the Munchkin card game. The dice are excellent for play: they're big, cool colors and changing the 10 for the munchkin face gives a nice touch. The cards that come in the set are as always fun to read and fun to play with. I've rated this set 4 stars because this game is not for everybody, you basically have to like the fantasy rpg genre and understand things like the difference of race and class and such, but for those that do get it the game is awesomely fun.

We were just using plain ol' 10 sided dice for our Munchkin games. Buying these isn't that essential, but they are fun to have. Gigantic 10-siders in different colors are nice, but the best part are the extra cards that come with it. Very nice addition.

"Fun boardgame based on Munchkin" 2009-01-12
By C. Zoppi
First off, I would really recommend this for people who are familiar with the Munchkin card game. If you like the card game, chances are you will enjoy the board game. Although the gameplay is somewhat different, it definitely helps to know how to play the card game. It is more complicated because of the fact that you lay down dungeon tiles and have to keep track of monsters and such, but that is what makes it fun! The additional rules on the dungeon tiles add to the fun as well.

I bought this for my boyfriend as a Christmas present and we brought it over to his friend's house so we could try it out. We played it with four people, and just glanced over the rules and delved into the game. We figured that we could consult the rules as we went along (This makes it more fun but it can take longer). Of course, we did some things that might be against some of the rules but we learned for the next time. We also noticed that the game came with a die that had 6 colored sides to it, two of which we did not have player tokens for. The reason for this is that the expansion, Munchkin Quest 2: Looking for Trouble, has the two extra player pieces along with additional cards, rules, etc... It took us longer than usual to play through the game because we were trying to get the monster movement and who owns what monster down, but after a few turns, we were more confident. Next time we play, it will probably take less time because we would know how everything works.

I enjoyed the game and everyone else seemed to like it as well. The only problem is that we can't always play because it takes up so much time.

Overall it was a very fun game as long as you don't mind the complexities of Munchkin's transition to the board game. And as with most board games, it takes some time to play (the box actually states that gameplay can take up to 3 hours!). However, I would check out the reviews on [...] as they do a better job explaining it than me!

"Finally, A Munchkin Board Game" 2008-09-15
By Kelly A. Ohlert (Philadelphia, PA USA)
From PlayingWithmWeiner.com:

Munchkin Quest, Steve Jackson Games' latest, is Munchkin with a dynamically built, interlocking board and monsters that followed you around. If you are not familiar with Munchkin the card game, it is a game based on dungeon crawling without all that finicky "character development". You kick down a door, you fight a monster within, you gain loot, you level. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Quest takes the ever-growing insanity that is Munchkin (there are several thousand different Munchkin cards spanning several genres, all of which can be used together) and attempts to tame it into a board game. It mostly works. I appreciated having a die-rolling element in my battles, as opposed to straight level vs. level. The movement through the dungeon gave new like to the idea of exploring rooms and finding what lurks within. My favorite new twist, however is the introduction of a real endgame. In Munchkin Quest, instead of just "I beat a monster, I'm level 10, I win. Woohoo.", you have to achieve level 10, then get back to the entrance of the dungeon, where you have to fight a level 20 monster to escape.

One thing hasn't changed, however. It still takes forever to win. One of the more clever mechanics in Munchkin is the ability to throw monkey wrenches at your opponents by growing their enemies, summoning more monsters, or worse. Munchkin Quest gives some disincentive for this by letting monsters roam, meaning that the level 1 Potted Plant you pumped up to level 25 against your buddy might come to feed on you, Seymour. That isn't true of the exit monster, though. If you lose, it disappears. Thus, the end of Munchkin Quest is just like the end of Munchkin proper - a war of attrition until someone runs out of whammies.

Munchkin Quest comes out in October, shipping sparing.

So these Steeds include not just the Dragon and the Tiger, but the Giant Mutant Gerbil (drawn by guest artist Shaenon K. Hireling? Yes indeed, The Need for Steed has lots and lots of Hirelings, who look quite a bit like Sidekicks from Super Munchkin, or Minions from Munchkin Bites! This add-on for Munchkins (#4) adds steeds and more henchmen (especially non-human henchmen). My kids and I (ages 9-11) played it after Christmas and found it to be a blast. The game time is still around 60 minutes even with the additions, so don't think that the game is really sped up with this pack. Good purchase nevertheless. We really enjoy it! Saving up for #5 now.

"Best add on pack yet!" 2006-12-21
By Valerie Frankel (San Jose, CA USA)
This add-on definitely improves the original Munchkin! It contains sidekicks like an elf sidekick and dwarf sidekick who can use race-specific items and take some devices off your hands (literally!). It also has modifiers like High and Dark (high elf, dark wizard...) which can be used ALONG WITH race cards (dark characters gain a level when bad stuff happens to other characters, which adds a fun dimension). The other notable addition is the steeds, "items" which you can ride for as much as a +5 bonus with the all-powerful Dragon Steed. There's the perpetually terrified Chicken Steed, 9-Lived Tiger Steed, Giant Mutant Gerbil, and plenty of others. Plus, all the cards have that brilliant Munchkin humor. Since this repairs the race and hand restrictions in original Munchkin, I'd definitely suggest getting this one, even if it's the only add-on pack you collect!

Trust me you'll love it. Why bother with pencil and paper rpgs when oyu can play it with cards. What I love about Munchkin is that my girlfriend hates Dungeons and Dragons but loves Munchkin so we can both play it. You should buy the original and this one as well. The add on for this game is great! More awesome character's to love! My family loves munchkin and with the add on of Munchkin 2, the game doesn't get boring or repetitive. A must have for all munchkin lovers.

"A wonderful expansion for a great game!" 2006-06-05
By Aaron Sherman (Malden, MA United States)
Munchkin, like all good comedy, makes it look easy. The game seems to be a haphazard collection of puns and silly in-jokes for gamers. But there's something else there. It plays well, has fairly balanced rules and manages to keep the competitiveness in the game even through all the laughter, right up to the last card.

This expansion walks the same tightrope, but it does work. The humor is as good as the cover implies, and if you have a group of gamers that enjoy a good laugh, you NEED to grab Munchkin and the first two expansions at least.

"Fun game for the family" 2009-07-19
By Shaura Miller (Minidoka, ID)
Our family has enjoyed playing this game. Only four players can play at a time and we have more people in our family, but some family members will team up. In some ways this game is similar to Stop Thief with the spy communicator (which looks like a small hand-held radio) taking the place of the police scanner. When the communicator is first turned on, players are instructed where to place their secret agents. On each turn, a player can enter two moves into the communicator. The communicator then announces where on the board it thinks the player should be and instructs the player to pick up the communicator to listen to a message just for that player. We have found the volume on the communicator is loud enough that if a player does not firmly press the communicator to their ear then the other players can hear the message. Also, sometimes it is difficult to place the communicator back on the board properly so that the volume is loud enough for all players. Players use the messages to find an agent on each continent. When these agents are found the player received cards that can be used to help them find the mastermind. The first person to travel to travel to the spot where the mastermind is located and correctly identify that location wins the game. The game is fun and the element of the communicator adds some excitement.

"great fun for spy fans" 2008-11-10
By Bianca Ramos
This game is a lot of fun for my 5 and 8 year old son (and myself). Since we bought it we have played it every day in the evening, because they want to track down a mastermind and catch him every day. Instead of playing against each other, we are working as a team to get the clues and find the master mind. Even for my 8 year old it is not very easy to find the master mind by himself.

What the children love is that they always put codes into the phone to tell the phone where they are going or what they are doing. I enjoy calculating where the mastermind might be located from the clues given.

It is fun to find out new strategies how to track down the mastermind faster.

One draw back: The secret messages that only one person is supposed to hear are too loud and can be heard by everyone. When playing as a team it doesn't matter, but if you want a more serious match you need to move away from the group with the phone when receiving important messages.

This game has a high replay value. I highly recommend it.
