Product Description
Children love making music, and our specially-sized piano makes it easy for your little ones to start playing. Twenty-five color-coded keys teach elementary cues for practicing scales and playing songs. Made of hardwood, it has a two-octave range and includes a starter songbook. 12" H x 16" L x 10" WWhen I first got this piano, the thing that bothered me was that the notes at the top of the keys is just a sheet of paper, barely glued on. I didn't know it was like this till a one-year old started picking at it, when I discovered it's only tacked by glue at either end. So, with a paintbrush, I glued it in and there it stayed. Then today, the whole thing fell apart when my tweenage son picked it up to move it. Keys, panels and everything just fell apart when it was picked up - it's as if the glue gave out. It's just not made well. It's glued together with pegs. Melissa and Doug, you've disappointed me. I paid full-price for this item, and didn't mind because of the M&D brand name and thought we'd have it for years. We've had it for less than 6 months. I see it is now about 22 dollars less...
My baby gets a proud look on his face when he "plays" his piano. It is so cute. I think he is developing a fondness for music.
I bought this for my 16 month old son for Christmas. He really likes it and plays on it often. He cannot follow the instruction guide, obviously, but I imagine he'll enjoy it even more as he gets older. Be forewarned, however, that it is more a table top piano, not one that a child would stand behind or sit on a chair to play.
I paid about [...] bucks for this item and the keys fell out X-mas morning. My 2 year old opended this gift and the black keys simply detached themselves with the first 30 minutes of play. When you first see the product it is appealing to the eye becuase of the vibrant colors but its simply a rouse for a faulty product.
This piano is great! It was for our 2 year old daughter, but it takes a good beating from our 5 year old daughter as well and is still holding strong!
We all play songs on it for fun. This has been on our wood floor and carpet and hasn't fallen over yet. I'd like to see them make one in the future with a few more octaves. I don't mind the toy sound at all and really enjoy having all the keys unlike a toy xylophone that tends to skip around so you can't play as many songs. There is a song book with colored and labeled notes which is nice to have, but I would have been willing to pay another $15 or so for a larger songbook with 50 or more songs.
I purchased this piano for my daughter for her 2nd birthday. She is my third daughter and both sisters are close in age, so finding the perfect gift for her is not easy.
When I came across the Melissa & Doug Learn-To-Play piano, I was thrilled. I also am familiar with this brand, so I expected that it would be excellent quality.
When I received it....I was even more thrilled!!! The colors are bright and cheerful, the design is sturdy. Not only does my 2 year old love it, but my 3 and 4 year olds love it as well. The older two can both follow the learn-to-play book really well. It is easy to understand and all of the songs are classic kid songs (Row Row Row your Boat, Mary Had a Little Lamb,Im a Little Teapot, Twinkle Twinkle, A Tisket A Tasket, Old MacDonald, London Bridge is Falling Down, Pop, Goes the Weasel, The Farmer in the Dell). My 4 year old can actually play a couple of songs now, without even using the book, which is proof to me that kids really can learn from this adorable piano!
I would (and have) recommended this piano to my friends and family.
I bought this for my daughter as she loved her plastic infant piano with four keys, but as she got older she threw it around more than she 'played' it. The Melissa and Doug piano is much larger, very sturdy, and is heavy enough that it stays in place while my little girl bangs on the keys.
I am confident that as she gets older, she may actually learn to play this piano with the included music book. The piano arrived in tune, and is quite playable even with adult fingers on the small, child-sized keys.
I got this piano while it was on sale for a ridiculously low price, and it is definitely a good value. Even at the regular price I think this piano is worth purchasing for children that are even remotely musically inclined, or for those with children that just like to make noise with musical instruments like my daughter.
Very highly recommended!
This piano is cute for a toddler. I ordered it for my 2 year old. She loves to bang on the keys and the color coding on the keys with the accompanying song book make it easy for me to play some of her favorite tunes. The size of the piano however, is not what I had expected. I thought it would be much larger... proportional to the size of a toddler. Instead, it is quite small. It is too short for my daughter to sit at with her toddler chair, but is too tall when placed on a coffee table unless she is standing up. I'm not sure how it was intended to be used, but is a good value nonetheless.
Great piano. Solid. We knocked it over a lot. It survived until Lucas was 5 years old. Sad to see it go into the garage sale. Classic metal tine sound.
Overall, this is a nice toy piano. The sound is really good. The bright colors are appealing. Two of the keys stick together. It scratches easily, but my one year old can be tough on toys. My one year old climbs on top of it since it's so small. The first time it got knocked over the top came off but went back on easily. Now the top is a little loose.
