Product Description
Have a band of your own! Wood instruments which include a recorder, kazoo, harmonica, jingle stick, xylophone, castanets. On the upside the harmonica is excellent quality, my 2 year old loves playing it for his baby sisters. The shake things with the metal in them are nice, we walk around the house shaking them, dancing. The crate is really nice, we keep our melissa/doug pound and roll in it so the balls don't go all over the house.
On the downside is my son doesn't really like the triangle, he can't figure out the (yellow/red) hand the clappity things, the long clapper (red/blue/green) doesn't impress him, the kazoo we thought was a whistle gets little use, the end of the flute came off and is no where to be found, we're not sure what the hallow piece of wood instrument is for. They xylophone is really monotone, it all sounds the same, one of the wooden knobs that holds the one of the red pieces on fell off so not that piece slides around.
In conclusion, the set is cute, all solid wood, but gets little use. I'd recommend getting a metal xylophone instead. We bought a nice one on novanatural made of metal and wood for $20. Find a different kazoo, we have a metal one he loves, it was kind of nice having 2 of them because his friends could play too. Invest in a harmonica, this one or another.
My 18-month old son received this for Christmas and has played with it every single day since! There are lots of instruments to choose from, so he never gets bored with one. We have also used it to teach him counting, and it's great for hand-eye coordination. Almost all the instruments are constructed of wood and are very sturdy, and it comes in a nice wooden crate that we kept for storing the instruments. Kids (and adults!) of all ages will have fun with this instrument set. I could also see it being a great addition to an elementary classroom or preschool/daycare room.
Our children love these instruments. They are nice and durable and I trully believe they'll still be around when we have grandchildren. A great toy investment.
Classic M&D product. The kids think it's a blast. The only problem is with the xylophone. Some of the bars are a little too tight and the tones are muted - really irritates my musician husband.
I purchased this gift for my cousin's three year old daughter. Her eyes widened to the size of melons when she saw the musical "intaments". The joy of seeing her expression more than paid for the actual price of this fantastic toy. I expect that she will be driving her parents crazy with music for the next year or so. The quality of the toy is impressive, not cheaply made, M & D toys usually speak for themselves and I purchased the smaller set for my two year old and he loves it too.
My 2-year-old loves this set. We broke it out for her when she started watching Baby Einstein's Meet the Orchestra. She likes to look for and play the instrument from this set that is being played in the video. Well made, safe, and lots of fun!
My 16 month old granddaughter loves music and this band set has many items that she can use by herself. She loves to walk through the house making music / noise. The only negative about this set is the nice wooden box that it comes in... it would be great for an older child but she has fallen over it a few times so we have found a different place to keep the instruments for now.
This is a good product for the price (I bought it on sale for $20), but I was disappointed by the quality after having purchased and enjoyed Melissa and Doug 60-Piece Standard Unit Blocks. About half the set is wooden sticks and clackers, which make a lot of great noise but won't hold your little one's interest for very long. The kazoo is marginal, with ours having rough, unfinished surfaces I wouldn't let near a toddler's mouth. The xylophone is pretty durable, but since it's made of wood it doesn't have any clarity of sound. The triangle and harmonica are both metal and give good, clear sounds. Overall, I think this set is fine to let a toddler bang on, but if you want quality/durability, or if you have an older child who truly enjoys music instead of just making noise, I would invest in a better product.
it captures the attention of toddlers wonderfully. It's a fun tool to allow parent and child to engage in play and lots of fun. I use it while babysitting friend's children and it is great. I use it while playing a nursery cd and pretend that we are in a marching band. The children loved it
The toys are low quality and very crappy. The xylophone, which was the main reason I bought this set, was made from very soft wood and easily dented even by a baby. In other hand, the edge of it was sharp, not very good for those soft hands. The other instruments in the set were sharing the same problem. Some of them were barely tuned! And the package.... wood chips were falling everywhere when I unpacked them, and had to keep an eye on my toddler not to step on them or picked them up.... All in all, not worth buying.
