Melissa & Doug Deluxe 10-Piece Alphabet Nesting and Stacking Blocks

Product Description

This set of ten sturdy cardboard blocks will keep your little one engaged for hours. Each colorful, bold block has beautifully illustrated letters and images on every side. Stack them high to build a soaring tower, or link them together on the ground. Nesting block measures 5.8"H x 5.8"W x 5.8"D.

Customer Buzz
I was skeptical at first, but my toddler loves these! We stack them (and then knock them over), and nest them, and I am amazed at how much she studies these - she looks for the stars, and the squares, and she tries to figure out what each character is doing (the bunny is smelling the flower, the cow is blowing out the candles, the bear is putting on his boots, the lion is going nite-nite, etc.). I think she could probably destroy these if she wanted to, and if I let her - I've had to stop her from trying to step inside the boxes a few times, but overall, these are a great toy!

My son loves stacking and playing with these blocks. However, they are not durable at all. A couple of the stickers have already come off ~ choking hazard. My son has also gnawed on all the edges and eaten the cardboard. I love the play factor of this toy but maybe it is for an older kid. My son is 1 year and still putting things in his mouth.

My two year old daughter thinks these are really fun and loves the pictures and letters on the blocks. The only problem is that they are not the most sturdy and will most likely not last a real long time, but for the price I think they were a good purchase. Very cute and kids do love to build towers!

It is a lovely toy. Very colorful with lost of detailing. My son is 1 yr and 9 mos- He doesn't play with it much. But when he does he is occupied for a while. He likes to knock it down more than putting it up. Be prepared to go on a hunt to find all the pieces. It's made from very strong cardboard, but it will show signs of wear very quickly. My toddler has already used the largest block as a step stool. My son is at the throwing stage, so I am very glad that they are not wooden blocks. I would recommend this gift, and I would certainly buy it again.

The child immediately stacked the blocks and sent them flying across the room after opening the gift. He loved the blocks and took them home out of state, so I don't know how to rate them now.

I got these as a gift for my son when he was nearly 1 year old. They are great b/c they are small when stacked, so you can take them with you. They seem plenty sturdy to me, I havent had one bust yet! I'd reccomend this for 12 months-3 years, but I'm sure older kids would enjoy them too. Its just so much fun to stack them up and knock them down!

I believe they make a wooden version of these blocks which I would have bought had I known how easily these card board ones start to break down. If your child doesn't try sitting or standing on everything then these blocks are for you. My daughter loves them and says the alphabet as she stacks them. Great just not durable.

Customer Buzz
If you have a teether, these will not survive the toddler's gnawing on them. Also, these will buckle under the weight of a toddler trying to balance on them or balance heavier toys on the boxes. For a good idea of how sturdy these are, they are comparable to heavy duty cardboard moving boxes. If you think you toddler won't be able to destroy these, this is a wonderful excellent toy. On the other hand, if your toddler is as strong as mine is, look for the wooden blocks instead, such as Hi-5 Sorting tower.

We have enjoyed these nesting/ stacking blocks for over a year now. They are of similar construction to those I had as a child (and still do.)

Addressing some concerns noted by other reviewers:

Granted they are cardboard, but seeing as their #1 purpose is to stack and then knock down, do you really want a tower of wooden blocks falling on your child's toes?

These are meant for use by children ages 2 and up. If you child is a chewer at that age, then you may have other concerns to address. The majority of age 2 children can play with a toy without gnawing all over it. My daughter started playing with these before age 2, but she also rarely chewed on toys after infancy.

If you are worried about how your child will treat these blocks, then only allow them to play with them while you are in the room. These are great toys to play WITH your child. You can monitor how they are treating them while you play with them together.

My son received these for his first birthday and they're probably the best toy he's ever received. He just turned two and still loves them. I keep them in the car all the time and he plays with them anytime we're at someone else's house, which is great because they're quiet and he's entertained by them for a long time. It's been fun to watch him do progressively more and more with them as he's gotten older. One thing, though--I do think that if he'd received them any younger, he would have put them in his mouth and ruined them. Twelve months was the right time to receive them. I noticed, however, that Melissa & Doug also make wooden nesting blocks, and that might be another way to go; they wouldn't be quite as light, of course, but I bet they're still a great toy.

They are starting to get a little beat up NOW, and I will buy a second set for my second son, but that's not bad for the amount of use we've gotten from a $10 toy.
