My daughter was struggling to learn how to tie her shoes in kindergarden this year. And we had tried using other methods to teach her but the shoe lace on this shoe is great. It's thick enough for her small hands to manage and within the first day of trying, she learned how to tie a shoe. A friend recommened this shoe to me and I recommend it to everybody I know.
I wish it had come with either the "bunny Ears" or the "around the tree" directions but it didn't come with either. I had to get online and find them since its been 20 some odd years since I learned how to tie my shoes and couldn't remember how they went. We tried both with my daughter but she grasped the "around the tree" best.
I thought this was a great way to learn how to tie shoes. It's a sturdy, fun toy. Would recommend.
the girl I gave it to, didn't take to it very well. Of course it is not as fun as a talking teddy bear. She is 3,5 years old. She may start using it after a while.
My daughter asked for this for months. We finally bought one for her for Christmas, and she loves it! It's great---colorful, sturdy, and big enough for little fingers to manipulate. She'll be tying her own shoes in no time!!
First I'll say that, like anything else I've ever purchased by Melissa & Doug, this item is very well-made. Very chunky, very sturdy, nice weight, smooth to touch. However, the shoe was not exactly what I was expecting. I assumed, since the product description mentioned "teaches your child", that there would be some sort of accompanying pamphlet, containing tips/tricks for the child. There is just the shoe and that's it. So I would consider this to be just a "practice shoe", nothing more. Had I known this before, I would not have purchased this item, since my son can use any old shoe in our house to practice on.
This lace up sneaker is awesome. After I convinced my 4 year old he could not wear it, it has been a great learning tool. It is really good sized and easy to teach and practice on. Another quality Melissa and Doug product!
I bought this toy after the twins were already well into difficulties with tying their shoes. We had been struggling over and over again for months with no sucess on the shoe tying front. We had taught them song and different techniques, tried exploying nija tying methods to make them remeber, everythig to get shoe tying down, to no avail. Finally, I thought maybe this shoe would assist by providing a different angle for learning. This helped one of the boys by displaying a majr flaw in his tying and BINGO he's gotten it every sinnce and now the show is no good. The other twin is autistic so keeps trying to wearing the show while tying it, so this cuases a whole set of individual set of problems. The show is useful for showing him especially how show tying works but it still a foreign concepts.
The break down: For the average kid who's learning to tie their shoes buy this right away before they get it a clue and it becomes obsolete. FOr a special needs kids, this is a useful hands on tool if you can get them to stop trying to wear it.
