The dollhouse itself requires adult assembly, but this takes less than an hour thanks in part to clear, easy-to-follow directions. The set comes with a Hex key, but you'll need a Phillips screwdriver on hand to finish the project.
The completed dollhouse sports a cheery exterior with lavender and pink detailing. Its handcrafted, hand-painted appearance and all-wood construction give it a charming and timeless feel. Five working doors, lattice-style windows, and two balconies provide charming finishing touches. Turn the house around to view its five spacious rooms on three floors. Two wooden staircases connect the floors; they're movable and removable, which gives the house's configuration added versatility.
The house measures 24.5 x 28 x 15.5 inches when assembled.
Delightful, Imaginative Accessories
The dollhouse's five rooms are furnished with plenty of all-wood, hand-painted furniture: a living room set, complete with sofa, ottoman, coffee table, and two easy chairs; a kitchen counter and stovetop unit; a dining table with 4 dining chairs; a bedroom set including a queen-sized bed, a dresser, a cabinet, and an armoire; and a bathroom set with a bathtub, sink, and toilet. With working cabinet doors, softly rounded edges, and pink and lavender details, the furniture construction is charming, durable, and safe.
The dolls themselves -- a mother, father, two children, and an infant Ealso echo the house's folksy, handcrafted quality. They're simple, functional, and durable, with their wooden heads, hands, and wide clog-shaped feet, sweet, painted on smiley faces, glued-on yarn hair, and real cloth clothes. The limbs are bendable, so you can position the dolls to sit perfectly in the dining chairs, on the sofa, and even on the little hand-painted toilet. A few minor drawbacks: the real cloth outfits cannot be removed, to the disappointment of our young child tester; and although they'll definitely stand up to the play of young children, their yarn hair and twistable limbs might not last as long as the house and furniture will.
Durability and Care
We found the Multi-level Wooden Dollhouse to be pretty sturdy, but care needs to be taken to make sure it remains in good working order. For example, it cannot be lifted by its roof, as this will pull the top section right off. We found that it's best to carry the house from its bottom, rather than grasping any part of its sides, to make sure it stays intact. The painted exterior can also be relatively easily scratched, and an overly exuberant child could also damage the hinged doors. However, if just a little bit of care is taken with this beautiful house, it will weather time very well and can be passed down to future generations.
this is a sweet little doll house. it was simple for my husband to assemble. My kids love it and actually my 10 month old plays at it as much as my 3 year old. the furniture is a little "basic", but we plan to order more melissa and doug furniture and people in the future.
Doll house was a big hit with my 4 year old grand daughter.
Extra furniture was no good. It was not only damaged but also the wrong scale,
so don't bother with it. It's intended for Melissa & Doug's Victorian doll house. Amazon did a quick refund. I found a "Royal castle nursery set" by a different company that was the correct scale (I hope).
great dollhouse with furniture and dolls. my 3 year old loves it. and i love it because it is not associated with a brand - barbie, dora, etc. she made up her own names for the dolls and imagines up amazing situations for them. a blank slate for a budding imagination. also, a friend suggested this is the perfect dollhouse to interior design - add wallpaper to walls, paint furniture, hang curtains. a great project for the mother and daughter when she is a bit older. and you can't beat the price - less than $[...] during christmas!!! the roof was a bit cracked, but i called melissa and doug and they mailed me a new roof right away, so not problem or hassle there.
I bought this for my 5yr old daughter for Christmas this year and I was so excited I found it. It was on sale at the time for about $[...]. I needed to find some sort of dollhouse for her because it was one of the things she REALLY wanted. It was about $[...] less than the Fisher Price Loving Family house and included all the furniture, whereas I couldn't find a dollhouse that included so much from anyone else. It took me about 30 minutes to set it up and the only thing that isn't the greatest is the attic/roof comes off very easily. The good side is that it also goes back on easily and my daughter can do that herself. It's heavy, sturdy and actually made of wood. Very girly and perfect for a 5 yr old. She can rearrange rooms to her liking as well as the stair cases. SHe doesn't really like the dolls that came with it, but she uses it with her polly pocket dolls. I'm very happy with it, and so is she - which i suppose is the important thing, right?
Easy to put together except for the roof, it didn't line up right. The balconies come off really easily too. I tried glue but must have not used enough! But my kids love it. I have a 3yr old, 2 yr old and 8 mo old. The house is even safe for the baby. No small parts and all the pieces are durable. We have really enjoyed it. And yes the house comes with a family even though the box doesn't say so. I really like Melissa & Doug products.
I bought this for my 4 year old daughter and my 4 year old niece...it is so much more aesthetically pleasing than those plastic dollhouses that are out there, and it reminds me of a toy that was made in a woodshop by a relative or neighbor. The dollhouse comes with a family and some furniture, as well as stairs, so there is plenty of opportunity for pretend play. For a young child to get the most out of this, a parent or caregiver should play along with them. I did try and move it from the top, and part of the roof came off; it was easy enough to put it back, but this house should be moved from the bottom. All in all, a very lovely dollhouse for a great price. My daughter and I are enjoying it!
Bought this for my 2 year old Daughter for Xmas. I think it's a very well put together doll house kit. I put off the build (While I built all the other xmas presents that came as a kit) which turned out to be completely unnecessary. It was very very simple to put together with very simple and easy to follow instructions. In addition to the included screws/tools you will need a Phillips screwdriver.
I wasn't sure how good the furniture/Dolls were going to be for the price but it's all actually very very nice and not at all what I was expecting.
That said, it appears the price we paid may have been a mistake since the current listing shows almost 3 times the price we paid. Anyway even at the current price I would recommend this doll house over some of the more pricey plastic moulded ones.
This dollhouse is very easy to assemble and the pieces are all made of wood and durable. My daughter who is 2 enjoys taking all the furniture out and rearranging everthing.
The only drawback is that some of the pieces really need to be glued on e.g. balconies. Otherwise, they are not very stable.
I got this dollhouse on sale for a great price. For the price I paid it was a GREAT DEAL! My 3 year-old daughter loves it and plays with it constantly. I am happy with the overall quality with the dollhouse- it is large, it is all wood (no plastic), and it assembles easily. It comes with furniture and dolls so it is an all-in-one purchase. The dolls don't stand well and are a little goofy looking but they aren't plastic which is a wonderful thing. The window ledges and the front steps come off to easily and the "movable" staircases are too big (they either hang off the edge of the house or run into the walls) but these are minor infractions that don't bother my daughter. Melissa and Doug makes excellent toys and I am very happy with this purchase.
