She recommends this to anyone who loves math or needs to work on math.
She loves math and it has lots of fun problem solving challenges.
My 8 year old hasn't played with it too much, it is a nice math toy though. And a very nice calculator for mom to use.
We bought the Math Wiz on Feb. 1st, 2008. It worked just fine at first and our 1st grader enjoyed using the Math Wiz on occasion. This isn't a toy, but really an electronic device for learning basic math factors.
What disappoints us is that after 6-8 months, the Math Wiz stopped working properly. At this point, the only thing we can get it to do is work like a basic calculator. The challenges and timed exercises do not function at all. It was never abused or dropped and still looks brand new. The thing just stopped working right all of a sudden, and now it appears I'm stuck with it in this condition.
I bought this toy for my son form Santa. I destroyed the packing slip when it arrived. Needless to say it did not even work. I tried 3 different sets of batteries and nothing. The toy was very cheaply made. We never got to use it and I'm out the money for not saving the receipt.
This was an excellent use of our money! Our daughter picks it up and "plays" with it without us even telling her to. She takes it on trips and sees how many levels she can get through. It has encouraged her to learn her math facts while having fun. We have had no problem with the display at all. I even love using it! It's a challenge for sure, but it has so many levels that they can start super easy. Highly recommended.
My 5-year old just started Kindergarten, but LOVES math (which they will only really cover a little of sometime this year). I bought this for him after his first day of school (he's "earned" a toy, and the one he planned on wasn't available). He choose this instead. He loves it. Its easy to use, even for one not too accustomed to computers, etc. He has had trouble with other electronic toys that try to get him to answer in X seconds, but loves that this tells him how long it took him, but doesn't pressure him to get it done in a certain time. The progression from easier to harder on the levels is great. He was "way past" some early levels, but he could do some mid-levels and still be challenged. We even discovered he could divide while he used this toy, though we didn't really know that before (other than 4 divided by 2 or such). He loves this toy so much, he took it to show and tell at school.
I would highly recommend for either kids struggling to remember things like times tables, or kids who just love doing math problems and want to be continually challenged. I'm sure this toy will last my little one for a long time, as there is so much to learn with it. Oh... he also loves to use it as a calculator. Its amazing how many things he finds to "calculate" in everyday life!
Awesome little toy. Child can start off at the easy level and work their way up. Game is esy to use and easy to understand. Has all levels of math for any child and I appreciate the fact that my child can have fun and learn at the same time.
This product quit working after only a couple of weeks. I tried new batteries, but it would not work. I couldn't remember where I ordered it, so I called the company. They were supposed to send me a new one, but I never recieved it. I still have the broken one. I was very dissappointed. I must have gotten a lemon!
Math Whiz has really helped my daughter with her addition skills. The games emphasize accuracy and speed. Her older brother can use this as well to reinforce his multiplication skills. It seems to travel well since my daughter has been toting it around in her backpack quite a bit.
This is a good little devise. It has a tendency of freezing up if you answer to fast or hit two buttons at the same time. I either wait until it unfreezes or have to pull the batteries to get it to reset. Other than that it is exactly what I was looking for for my kids.
