Our 9 yo made a few projects the first day and radio the next day he got the kit and now he doesn't want to take it apart, he carries it around the house and listens to his radio when he is home, he puts it on the night stand when he goes to bed, he turns it on first thing in the morning. It replaced all toys, he runs to his radio when he gets home from school. I was afraid this set would be too hard for him to get started, but it's not, he made everything by himself without any help. We are ready for the upgrade kit. Buy it, this is probably one of the best toys we ever bought for our son, thank you amazon for offering it and special thank you to everyone for your great reviews, they do not lie.
Snap Circuits have created a great way tool for helping children better understand electronics and electricity without a lot of the mess that comes with other electronics kits. It's easy to snap together the circuits following the instructions and then describe what's happening.
Pros: Easy snap interface, hundreds of pre-designed circuits.
Cons: It doesn't come with much detail on what the components do or how the circuit works, so you need to understand it yourself first or be prepared to do a lot of studying on your own. Also, the integrated circuit components hide a lot of what is happening in those circuits, so some of the educational value is lost.
There's not much I can add to the positive reviews here already. I'm very impressed with this product.
My 3 points:
1) I have a 7 year old, and obviously, it requires supervision and instruction (especially to start). The first day, we created several of the numbered projects in the booklet together. The second day, he got it out by himself and decided to build the circuit on the "DO NOT DO THIS!" page. Luckily no one and nothing got hurt. He can read, but apparently he didn't comprehend that this warning applied to HIM.
2) It would be nice if the numbered projects listed a little more information on what the "special" chips do. I'm sure it tells somewhere in the booklet, but my son was much too anxious to get started to look up those details elsewhere in the book.
3) It's imperative that the "chips" stay organized: everything must be put back in its proper spot for storage so that it can be found the next time you want to use it. This fact, alone, has made this a tremendously educational tool for my son.
Bought this for my 9 year-old nephew for his birthday. He has been having a great time with this making all kinds of cool gadgets....best part is that it is educational too!
This is a great toy for a young child. My kid loves the Snap Circuit and spends hours creating new projects.
Snap Circuits SC-300. This has turned out to be a wonderful and challenging educational toy. It has helped to develop analytical skills and an understanding of how electricity works for my eight year old son. And it has been a source of much fun and satisfaction which helps to develop self confidence and self worth which is so important for children. I highly recommend this product.
This comes with a book with easy to follow diagrams on how to make 305 different things. My son who loves anything and every thing electronic loves this. He can make, take apart, and create something else new. I helped him with the first one then let him go, to do it himself. As long as he remembers to put everything back in the box for next time. The box has a flip up lid and a place for everything with a chart where everything should go. The pieces are all labeled and color coded as well for easy identification. All in all it seems like a great toy.(At least until he starts losing pieces).
Great product bought for my daughter, but I have fun creating various electric contraptions myself.
Everyone in the family will like playing around with this toy. It's fun and easy.
