I got this for my boys' puzzles. It's a nice way to store them and keep them accessible at the same time. It's sturdy and well-made. My only problem is that it can be tough to slide the puzzles in. Getting both sides into the corresponding slots can take a minute, since the slots are narrow and close together. My boys definitely won't be able to do it until they are much older.
A great idea in theory, so our puzzles aren't stacked in a pile on the floor. And my kids enjoy seeing what we have, and sliding the puzzles out. But they CAN'T put them away! I even have a hard time getting them back in the rack! I bought this to organize our collection, and encourage the kids to clean up after themselves, but am left cleaning up myself after my kids are done. So what's the point? I'll be looking for one with actual shelves to replace this.
I ordered this with some trepidation after reading the negative reviews here but I had nothing to worry about.
We do use this rack to hold Melissa and Doug puzzles (one is the Magnetic Fishing Game puzzle, the other is similar but with bugs instead of fish) as well as other puzzles. I also use this for one knobbed puzzle which I can store either on the top slot of the rack or by leaving two or three slots open between that and the next puzzle.
I think this is great, perfect. It is light weight, and yes my 4 year old has trouble angling the puzzles in just right to get them to all fit, but he can put some of them in. He is not much of a house keeper in other respects either, let me tell you.
Mine came with the rubber feet that other reviews complained of being absent.
I love the look, love the function, love that it is light weight so that I can pick up the whole contraption, fully loaded with puzzles (tilting the back toward my body so as not to spill them all out the front) and carry it to another room or table so that my kids can play where ever I am.
This puzzle rack does the job and fits great into my cubby shelving that I have for their toy storage. However, what a shame that the sound puzzles, which they have several of do not fit.... Let's see if Melissa & Doug start to make something that can accommodate these popular sound puzzles.
I desperately needed a place for puzzles. It's okay. My daughter has dumped the entire rack over several times while trying to get 1 puzzle out- and she is 4. It does the job. The chunky puzzles don't fit but I knew that when I bought it. It is not a bad product and it does some of the job I need it to.
I wanted a way to store my 2-year-old's wooden puzzles (mostly made by Melissa and Doug) so that they would be organized and she could access them as needed. So far I've been pretty frustrated with this wire storage.
It doesn't seem to fit puzzles well and they get stuck when taking them in and out of the slots. I can deal with this (although it's annoying) but my daughter is pretty much unable to remove and store the puzzles because they do not go in and out smoothly.
Also, it slides around on the shelf, making it even more difficult to remove and put back the puzzles.
So, great idea, but needs some adjustments so it really works.
I scored this product low only because a rack isn't something fun for a child. However, I do like that you can keep all your puzzles organized. When I ordered it though I did not realize the large knob puzzle don't fit in this rack. It is hard to tell from the picture how large the openings are. Oh well, looks like I can fit in some others!
I love being able to leave the puzzles out for my daycare children to play with whenever they like. I did find one or two of my puzzles (which weren't Melissa & Doug) didn't fit, they were too large. Great product though.
Melissa & Doug wooden toys and puzzles are wonderful! They are simple and durable allowing room for your child's personal imagination and creativity without spinning your child into over-stimulation mode as so many toys can do today! They have so many neat puzzles for various ages of development, and this rack is the perfect way to keep them organized and stored efficiently. There are also wooden puzzle racks available, but this wire rack is the least expensive and it does the job! You can store one of the thicker Melissa & Doug Puzzles (like the ones that make noise) on top of the rack, since they are too thick for the slots.
If you're looking for a way to organize your puzzles, this is it! Does a great job, and kids do pretty well getting them in/out. I wish there were a way to adjust the sizes of the racks, but I haven't seen anything like that.
