I can't speak to the entertainment/educational value of this toy. Truth be told I purchased the blocks to spell out my child's name for a maternity photo shoot. I really love the blocks and the fact that you get 50 not just the standard 26. They are a little small so could potentially be a choking hazard for young children but with proper supervision I have no problem with my future child playing with these blocks.

I bought this name brand of blocks under the assumption that all Melissa and Doug toys are made in America. And wrong I was. The blocks are tiny, cheaply made (in China!) and my almost 2 year old loses interest in them as soon as he dumps them out. He chewed on one for a mere 3 seconds or less and already paint and pieces of wood were in his mouth. Luckily he brought me the pieces to throw away and didn't swallow them!
These blocks are good for one thing though - painful weapons for anyone robbing your house in bare feet! Stepping on them in the dark while going for a drink of water - OUCH!

We bought these for our 18 month old son, who already knows his CAPITAL alphabet. We bought this set specifically for the lower-case letters, which we saw in the pictures of this product. Woops. I guess the pictures are a comparison between the "mommy and me" set with bigger blocks and this set. These are small (maybe 1" x 1"). Skip these and get the bigger, higher quality "mommy and me" blocks that have capital letters on one side and lower case letters on the opposite side of the same block.

These blocks are so cute, my one and two year old have spent hours playing with them already! They build towers, knock 'em down, and are constantly asking what letters or number is on the block. Love these!

Customer Buzz
I expected these blocks to be larger so was disappointed by their size but gave them to our 14-month old grandson for Christmas anyway. He loved them---just the right size for his little hands to pick up, although he wanted to put them in his mouth, too (almost small enough for him to get them IN his mouth, but not quite). Loved to help stack them and then knock them down. Other than size, they were great.

Customer Buzz
These blocks are colorful and have interesting pictures on the sides without letters. The corners are a little sharp when you or your little one steps on them, so keep them out from under your feet. I was surprised to find a big styrofoam filler in the bottom of the package, which I suppose is there to make an appearance of more blocks. I think using styrofoam for that purpose is pretty irresponsible, as it will now be in a landfill until the end of time, not to mention the dangerous chemicals required to make it in the first place. However, my main disappointment with Melissa & Doug toys is that they are made in China. I can't imagine why a company would outsource jobs to China to make simple wooden toys when we have plenty of hard working people and plenty of lumber here. I won't be buying holiday gifts from China this year, so I won't be buying any more Melissa & Doug.

My Son who is now 14 months, got this for his 1st birthday. He was bit young for it then but is now more interested in the blocks and the animals on it and can recoginze a few of them. He likes me to build towers which he then proceeds to knock over. He also likes to hide the blocks under whatever he can find. Which makes keeping all the pieces together a challenge.

The bag it comes with for storage is realy not that great. It can't fit all the blocks, unless you pack them very nice and neatly, and who has the time for that.

My daughter enjoys playing with the blocks that are the right size for her little hands and I love that they are safe to play with.

If I would have known (I'm new to this on line shopping) that these were only an inch in diameter i would have never gotten them. How can you stack them which is what my purpose was in buying them? Only after I received them did I want to complain and here I am, I also am returning them unopened.

I recently purchased these blocks for my 11 month old son. He liked them immediately. The colors are attractive, and he loves to build and stack. I like the fact that they are painted with non-toxic paint-so they're safe for baby if he puts it up to his mouth. The only downside is that they are 1x1 inch square, which is kinda small for a small child-but since either my husband or I are actually playing blocks with him-it's okay. I have watched and I don't think he could actually get one lodged in any way, but I still supervise.
