Before you complain to much about assembly let me tell you a story. Once upon a time these kitchens where made of cardboard and had to be assembled inserting slots into holes. The instructions weren't good and so it literally took all night for my dad to put one together for Christmas. This is very similar to one my sister had when she was about five and she loved it, but even my brother and I joined her in playing with it. Although I don't own one of these new wood ones, a friend does. The only thing else you need is table and chairs and a dish and silverware set. Then they are all set. You can't beat the quality and amount of fun the kids will have. This kind of set draws in the neighbor kids to play and give them all many hours of safe entertainment that is close at hand. If you need something more than that for incentive I don't know what to say. As for the price it may seem a little high, but it really isn't considering the amount of fun this will generate for the kids. Add in the fact it will last long enough to be handed off to family or donated to a good cause. I highly recommend this for your kids.

I agree with a previous reviewer...I don't know what everyone was talking about with assembly problems. My only thought is that they didn't look at the directions possibly? I assembled this with help from 3 kids under the age of 5 in a few hours. Would have been quicker if I hadn't had the help:) But I found it to be easy, the directions were VERY clear, with pictures and very well written directions. Durability, it has been great. I have caught my kids in the refrigerator and climbing on the stove:) All held up well, thank GOD!;) Apparently the novelty of trying to climb it is in the past and now we are cooking mommy and daddy meals all the time. Great toy, great buy and great investment.
Despite our many problems in this order thru Amazon, we are thrilled with it! All problems were rectified, though I really had to stay on top of Amazon for get it resolved. That being said...I believe the problems we had with warehouse packing errors have been resolved and I cannot imagine others with have these difficulties. My 3 year old daughter LOVES the kitchen (her birthday present) and her 4 year brother is enjoying it as well. It was tedious put together, but instructions are well written, color coded system easy to follow. Took us about 1 hour to assemble. Very nice product, and I believe it was well worth our money...and even trouble in ordering! Thanks Amazon for resolving...and for offering a good price! Thanks, as always, to Melissa and Doug for putting good, solid educational toys out there for kids who don't need lights, sounds and other distractions in order to be good toys!
This did take two very smart women 4 hours to put together. It was not difficult to read or put together just very time consuming at the very end the man of the house decided to help so if you got a "man" handy definitely use that to your advantage ladies :) Once the toy is together it's pretty amazing. It's very sturdy and quite heavy I feel this was a good purchase and will last for a while. My 2 1/2 year old daughter enjoys it. The only thing I don't like is that the sink tub just pulls right out no biggie and it's not dangerous but, I feel the sink should not be able to just come out like that. Otherwise good buy and worth every penny. I have no regrets.
The shipment came in two packages which arrived at the same time. The shippers had severely damaged the corner of one box. The shipper actually documented it's poor condition. When I got it home and opened it up, I was suprised and pleased to find that every piece was undamagaed due to the care taken to package the items. Not a single damaged corner.
The assembly took a few hours, and, I was not in a big hurry to get it set up. Plan for it to take 3-4 hours and do not try to rush. If you have ever bought furniture that requires assembly (like Sauder), you know what is involved ... a lot of screws. Everything fit together perfectly, no need to drill holes or retouch with paint.
I cannot wait to see my 3 year old daughter's face when she gets this wooden play kitchen for her birthday! Her big smile will more than make up for the few hours it took to assemble.
I am so very pleased with this product. My 1 /12 yr old loves it. It really isn't difficult to put together. My husband and 10 yr old put it together in about 1 hour 45 minutes. The directions were very clear. It is very sturdy, the doors all work properly and the knobs all move as they are ment to.
One thing we did discover though when we went to put it together was that the product does come in 2 boxes. We received one box and didn't realize until the week of Christmas. We called Amazon and they took care of shipping out a replacement and sending us a return label to send back the one we had. Very good customer service!
The product was great and easy to put together. We are missing hinge but customer was so nice and are sending it out. It' a nice compact kitchen and and all wood. I looked all over the net for a kitchen for her huge play house in the backyard and this is great. It's just the right size for our use. I would recommend it to anyone. Thanks
This toy kitchen is not what I expected. I've seen others that are cute and plastic. This thing is like a good piece of Ikea furniture! Amazing...granted it's heavier-but worth it. Melissa and Doug really have it together.
This is a lovely kitchen! The price was great and my little one can't get enough of it. It's VERY sturdy. We were concerned that she have something that wouldn't topple.
It arrived quickly, but there was a ding in the back panel (where the cherries are painted). I haven't decided whether it's worth contacting M&D to see about a panel replacement.
It took my DH and I a couple of hours to put together but the directions were clear and the colored dots/numbering/bagging system was very helpful.
I'm very pleased!
I bought this kitchen for my 3 and a half year old daughter for christmas. It's great value for money from Amazon. Personally for me, it was more gratifying to buy her a wooden kitchen in the same price as a good plastic one.
It was a task to assemble it. It took my husband 2 hours to set it up. But he got our daughter involved as she read the numbers that came at each point in assembly. I think she really enjoyed helping him set it up. She plays with it everyday.
The only trouble I see is that it's quite hard to latch the doors of the refrigerator, it takes some effort for me to shut them, and once shut, my daughter has to pull hard to open them.
